What's Your Favorite Romance Movie?
If you ask my friend Kristen what her favorite romance movie is, she'll probably say "Rush Hour" or "The A Team" or some other movie with bad guys that get beat up. She loves action movies. Sometimes I wish I was head over heels for action movies too, since I know that's what my Danish Architect loves. What would that be like? A Friday night where we watch The Game, and then maybe a double feature of Jackie Chan or Bruce Willis something or other? In this day dream I imagine myself laughing as people clonk each other on the head (instead of hiding behind my hands like I usually do) and then I imagine my husband saying, "Wow. This is fun. We should eat some hot dogs go golfing together tomorrow too."
Um, no thank you. That particular day dream is officially over.
I like action movies on a case by case basis, but what I really love is the mushy stuff. Now let me clarify. I'm not talking about Maid in Manhattan or Sleepless in Seattle. I like old fashioned romance, when the camera pans down to her ankles while they kiss, as to allow our imaginations to do the work. I like Happily Ever After. We need more of that in our lives to counteract the not-so-good parts of life. I believe in Happily Ever after. And it sure is fun to watch on television.
Personally, I am a total fool for Mister Darcy. What are your favorites?

I'm with you on the old fashioned romance. I have to put in a vote for Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy though.
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite - North and South - adapted from Elizabeth Gaskell's book of the same title.
Just seeing the picture of Mr. Darcy makes my heart swoon!! I just finished reading the book yesterday and after seeing the picture went directly to Netflix to have it sent this weekend for me and Chris and watch. I have a husband who actually enjoys a good chick flick now and then. :)
ReplyDeleteJenni, I hope you appreciate Chris' open mindedness about romance movies. Jeremy is easy going enough to watch them with me, but then he makes noises, laughs, or groans during the romance parts. So he isn't allowed to watch them with me now!
ReplyDeleteAnd I should clarify that I don't discriminate between the Mister Darcys. I like ALL of them!
